What makes a good diffuser bottle

A reed diffuser works by capillary action: fragrance climbs the rattan reeds and evaporates from the exposed length. The bottle has two jobs — hold enough liquid for a long burn, and hold the reeds upright and stable while someone walks past it. That is why diffuser bottles are almost always a heavier, wider body than a perfume bottle of the same capacity, with a flat base and a low centre of gravity.

The neck matters more than it looks. A collar neck supports a metal or wooden collar ring that both centres the reeds and gives the pack a finished look; a cork finish is used when the product ships sealed and the customer replaces the cork with the reeds, which is the cleaner way to ship without leaking.

Capacity versus burn time

The standard retail units are 100 ml for a primary SKU and 50 ml for a bedroom or gift size, with 30 ml used for samplers and hotel amenities. As a rough guide the liquid lasts six to ten weeks once the reeds are inserted, depending on the number of reeds and the ambient temperature, so the bottle size is really a brand decision about price point and replacement frequency rather than a technical constraint. A smaller bottle with fewer reeds simply means the customer reorders sooner.

Glass colour, decoration and accessories

Clear and frosted glass dominate because the liquid has to be visible for the diffuser to read as a diffuser. Amber and coloured bodies are used for a warm, apothecary look, and gradient finishes appear in gift sets. Decoration is usually a wrap label, silk-screen printing or a hang-tag, and the collar ring in metal or wood is often where the brand mark goes. Packing and shipping notes

Diffuser bottles travel filled, which makes them a leak-sensitive item. In practice that means an inner bag or shrink band and a carton with a properly sized partition, plus a closure that is tested for the liquid you are filling. If you ship sealed with a cork and supply the reeds separately in the same box, you remove almost all leak risk and still deliver a complete product.
