Why dropper bottles are almost always glass
Tinctures and oils are sold by the drop, and the first thing a customer does is hold the bottle up to the light. Glass shows the colour and clarity of the product, does not absorb flavour compounds, and can be sterilised and reused. The pipette itself is glass for the same reason: a plastic dropper can leach into an alcohol-based tincture and will cloud over repeated use.
Amber and cobalt blue are the two functional colours. Amber blocks most UV and near-UV light and is the default for CBD and botanical tinctures; cobalt blue blocks a different slice of the spectrum and is used as much for its shelf look as for protection. Green is common in aromatherapy. Clear glass is the right choice when the product itself is the visual selling point and the bottle will be stored out of light.
Choosing the dropper, not just the bottle
The closure decides how the product is used, and it is where most first orders go wrong. A standard glass pipette and dropper cap gives the familiar squeeze-bulb dose and is the cheapest option. A tamper-evident dropper adds a ring that breaks on first opening, which several retail channels require. A child-resistant dropper is the right choice for CBD and any product containing THC or a nicotine-analogue, and like all CR packaging it is validated as a bottle-plus-closure combination — change the bottle and you need a new test.
Check the neck finish before you order either part. An 18 mm neck and a 20 mm neck look similar in a photo and will not interchange, and the pipette length has to be cut to the finished bottle height or it will not reach the last 5% of the product.
Sizes and the dilution problem
Dropper bottles sell in a narrow band and the choice is usually decided by dose count rather than volume. A 30 ml bottle with a 1 ml pipette gives roughly 30 adult doses, which is the standard retail tincture; 15 ml suits trial sizes and travel; 50 ml and 100 ml are used for bulk and refill formats. The one thing to avoid is a bottle so large that the pipette cannot reach the bottom — past 100 ml, a pump or a screw cap with a separate pipette works better than an integrated dropper.
Decoration, labelling and compliance
Because dropper bottles are small and curved, artwork has to be planned around the label and any regulated panel. Frosting, silk-screen printing, hot-stamp foil and full-wrap labels are all available. For CBD and tincture products sold in the US, the label typically needs a serving statement, a concentration figure and the standard FDA disclaimer; allow space for that before you design the brand side. They can be. We supply child-resistant dropper closures tested to 16 CFR 1700.20 with the matching bottle, and the test report is issued for that specific bottle-plus-closure combination.
Can I order bottles and droppers separately?
Yes, and many buyers do. Confirm the neck finish first — 18 mm and 20 mm necks do not interchange — and give us the finished bottle height so the pipette is cut to the right length.
Which colour blocks the most light?
Amber blocks most UV and near-UV light and is the usual choice for CBD and botanical tinctures. Cobalt blue is comparable for visible light and popular for essential oils. Clear glass blocks the least and is best for products stored in a box or a dark cabinet.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
